Asrar Al Hajj

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

according to one opinion — the shaving of the head (al-Ḥalq) following it. The pillars of ʿUmrah are the same, except for the standing at ʿArafah.

As for the obligatory duties compensated by the shedding of blood [a sacrifice], they are six omissions:

  • Neglecting to enter the state of consecration from the designated boundary (al-Mīqāt).
  • Neglecting to cast the pebbles at the pillars (al-Jamarāt), even for a single day — for this, a sacrifice is due, unanimously.
  • Neglecting to remain standing at ʿArafah until sunset.
  • Neglecting to spend the night at Muzdalifah.
  • Neglecting to spend the night at Minā.
  • Neglecting the Farewell Circumambulation (Ṭawāf al-Wadāʿ).

The final four omissions are compensated by a sacrifice according to one of two opinions; according to the other opinion, the sacrifice in these cases is merely recommended.
